HungerGamesTrilogy.Net Fans of The Week – Samantha and Sarah

HungerGamesTrilogy.net’s Fans of the week are Samantha and Sarah. They are both 13 years old and are from the USA.

How did you learn about The Hunger Games?
Samantha: Through the Colorado Blue Spruce awards. It looked interesting so I decided to get it, along with a list of other books. I actually read it over Sarah’s shoulder on a plane flying from Hawaii to Colorado. We didn’t even notice when the plane landed, we were so hooked! Unfortunately, I missed the first 3 chapters and had to read them when we were done with the book.

Sarah: Same as Samantha, but I can proudly say that I was the first of us to read it! I think it was in…early summer 2011? I’m not sure exactly.

If you were born in the dystopian era, what do you think would your life be? Would you be living in one of the districts or would you be enjoying a fabulous life in the Capitol?
Samantha: I’d like to say I’d be toughing it out in the districts, but I’d probably be in the Capitol. Everything is so fancy there! They also have a lot of bright colors, which I like.

Sarah: I guess it would really depend on where I was born, but it would probably be in the Capitol. I can’t really imagine myself in any of the districts.

If your name was called in the reaping and you’d be participating in the Games, which of the tributes from the 74th and 75th Hunger Games will you choose as allies?

Samantha: From the 74th, maybe the Careers or Foxface. I know that the careers are mean and brutal, but I could pretend to be one of them and get all of the benefits of being a career, like sponsors and supplies. From the 75th, Peeta. Because he’s nice and the only one I would trust.

Sarah: Honestly, I wouldn’t ally with anyone. It would be too easy for them to kill me in me sleep, so I’d probably just go alone.

As a Hunger Games tribute, what would be your skill and strategy to survive?

Samantha: Either pretend to be a career then hide when it comes down to the final four, or pull a Foxface and follow people to learn what’s safe to eat.

Sarah: Hide. I can’t use weapons at all. Plus I could never kill someone. I’d just hide out and eat berries (not Nightlock though!!!).

What do you think of ‘The Hunger Games’ movie?

Samantha: It was good, but kind of fast paced. It seemed like they skipped a lot of parts that were in the book. I guess that happens to every book that gets turned into a movie.

Sarah: It felt so short!!! Even though it was 2 hours and 22 minutes, I felt like they left out a lot. They skipped one of my favorite scenes! And they added some really pointless scenes, like the uprising in District 11. For some reason, I thought that scene didn’t make sense and was just pointless.

What’s your favorite scene from The Hunger games movie?
Samantha: The scene where the Careers kill the girl who started a fire. I know, its an unlikely choice, but it was so funny! They were laughing and joking about killing someone!

Sarah: Hard to say…I really liked Samantha’s choice too! I also liked Clove and Katniss’s fight scene (The Feast scene). And when the Careers were chasing her (Right before the tracker jacker scene), and they were laughing. And the scene when Cato dies… I could probably go on, but I should stop. Basically, I loved almost all of it!
