Hunger Games Trilogy Fan Site’s fan of the week is Kassidy. She is 14 years old and she’s from U.S.A.
At school, the month of March is reading month. We had this one day where we got to dress up as our favorite characters from a book. Me and my friend had the idea of getting 24 people to dress up as the tributes from The Hunger Games. He went as Gale, and I went as Katniss. I made more than thirty District Identification Cards on Microsoft Word for us to have that day. After it was all said and done, everyone thought it was the coolest thing EVER! It was the talk of the school for days, ad we still talk about it all the time! Our topics of conversation at school are mostly about The Hunger Games, whether it be Team Peeta or Team Gale, or TheHunger Games movie, I have trained myself to listen when people talk about it. It really is my favorite series EVER, and I wish it hadn’t ended!
Characters in order from left: President Snow ( my social studies teacher), Katniss Everdeen (me), Gale Hawthorne (my friend who helped me with the idea), and Peeta Mellark (an eighth grader at my school). These are only the main characters.
This is a picture of all the tributes and one of the girls even dressed up as Haymitch! (she’s the one in blue). We also got someone to dress up as Cinna (the one with the scarf).
Q and A with Kassidy:
1. How did you learn about The Hunger Games?
When I was in sixth grade, a few of my friends read the first book and said they absolutely LOVED it. I wasn’t all that into science-fiction books at the time, so I didn’t read it. I am a huge fan of Josh Hutcherson, and when I heard that he was going to be in the movie, I was willing to give it a shot. The week before the movie came out, I started to read The Hunger Games. I ended up reading the entire series in that oneweek, and have read all three books at least three times since then.
2. If you were born in the dystopian era, what do you think would your life be? Would you be living in one of the districts or would you be enjoying a fabulous life in theCapitol?
I am quite a flamboyant and crazy person. I am creative, and obsess over things easily. One of my obsessions just so happens to be The Hunger Games. I think I would live in the Capitol for those reasons alone. They obsess over The Hunger Games, and are the craziest, most flamboyant people I could ever hope to meet.
3. If your name was called in the reaping and you’d be participating in the Games, which of the tributes from the 74th and 75th Hunger Games will you choose as allies?
I would definitely choose Katniss, Peeta, Rue, Finnick, and Johanna as allies, just as Katniss did. Katniss, because she is such a brave and strong-willed person. Peeta, because, well, he’s hot! He’s also sensitive and he was definitely my favorite character in all the books and the movie too. Rue, because she’s deadly smart, and can do things most of the other tributes can’t. Finnick, because he too is good-looking, and he seems like the kind of guy you can trust, even though he was quitethe ‘player’. And finally, Johanna, because she is a brutal, killing machine. She would do all the dirty work, and she is strong too.
4. As a Hunger Games tribute, what would be your skill and strategy to survive?
My skill would be anticipation. I can anticipate what people will do, and I could build off that to make sure I never got caught in a life-threatening situation, although TheHunger Games is that in itself. My strategy would probably be like Foxface’s. I wouldn’t try to kill anyone, and although she didn’t align with anyone, I would have. To ensure my safety for as long as I could, I would align with tributes I could trust.
5. What do you think of ‘The Hunger Games’ movie?
The Hunger Games movie was INCREDIBLE! I loved it so much I felt the need to see it again! I loved all the actors they chose, and they played their parts perfectly. I would have loved to be a part of something so wonderful, and want to see if there was any possible way that I could be.
6. What’s your favorite scene from The Hunger games movie?
My favorite scene was when Peeta and Katniss were in the cave. I loved watching their relationship evolve, and watching Katniss decide how she felt about him, and seeing how he felt about her. I also love the part when Peeta confesses his love for Katniss in the interview. It’s a real turning point for both of them, and it builds a strong foundation for what happens in the Games and after. Plus, I can quote that scene!
