HungerGamesTrilogy.net’s Fan of The Week is Emily. She is 12 years old and she lives in North Carolina, U.S.A.
1. How did you learn about The Hunger Games?
I first heard about The Hunger Games from my math teacher, Mrs. Blake. She was explaining the main idea of the book to me. She told me that The Hunger Games was about kids killing other kids in an arena until one remains and this is what they had to do because they were bossed around by mean, powerful people in a Capitol. From that explanation, I wanted nothing to do with The Hunger Games, and I forgot about it for a while. Then, when I first saw the movie preview come out on the news, to me it looked like a pretty good movie that was worth seeing. I still had Mrs. Blake’s explanation stuck in my head, but I still went to see the movie in theaters. When it was finished, I absolutely, positively, most definitely loved The Hunger Games!!! Especially Katniss. I loved how the movie had a strong female role and I really enjoyed Jennifer Lawrence’s acting skills. I loved the movie so much that I went to Walmart the next day and bought the book (Now, Just to let you know, I am the type of person that hates reading). I finished it in 2 days and bought Catching Fire, finished in 1 day, and bought Mockingjay, finished it in 3 days. I am reading the trilogy for the second time now and I’m on Mockingjay again.
2. If you were born in the dystopian era, what do you think would your life be? Would you be living in one of the districts or would you be enjoying a fabulous life in the Capitol?
If I was born in this dystopian era, I would guess my life would be similar to Katniss and Prim’s. I would most likely be living in one of the outlying districts like District 12. I could picture myself living a life like Prim has (I am Prim’s age and I have an older sister, Katniss’s age in the first book.). I dislike the Capitol, but I would want to live there. Life would be easier and you wouldn’t have to participate in The Hunger Games.
3. If your name was called in the reaping and you’d be participating in the Games, which of the tributes from the 74th and 75th Hunger Games will you choose as allies?
As my allies, I would most likely choose Katniss, Rue and Johanna Mason. The reason I would choose them is because I barely know anything about hunting, gathering and fighting. They know much more about survival and protection too. Also, they have good personalities and wouldn’t kill another tribute (unless they had to), let alone an ally.
4. As a Hunger Games tribute, what would be your skill and strategy to survive?
Since I don’t posses many skills in this area, my best skill/strategy would be running and hiding. I can dominate in a game of hide-and-seek. My way of getting food would be choosing allies.
5. What do you think of ‘The Hunger Games’ movie?
The Hunger Games movie was FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!! Like I said, I watched the movie before reading the books and me, the girl who hates reading, decided to pick up the trilogy and begin, all just from seeing the movie! My favorite actor in the whole entire movie would have to be Jennifer Lawrence of course. I love Katniss and Jennifer Lawrence and she handled this huge role beautifully. I have already pre-ordered my copy of the movie (in bluray, too!) and I can’t wait until I can see it again! I know that when I get it I am going to watch it over and over and over and over again! I downloaded the previews to the movie and I know every word…My friend, Maddi, and I are totally obsessed (My teachers think we are crazy!). We took a test online and it said I was Primrose and she was Katniss. So that is our new names and we are sisters!
6. What’s your favorite scene from The Hunger games movie?
This one is a tough decision. Honestly, I love all of the scenes in this movie (except for the cave scene with Katniss and Peeta) and I really don’t have a favorite. But a scene that really had me on the edge of my seat was the countdown…THE BEST!! In that scene, I felt like I was a tribute, waiting for my death, and my heart was in the bottom of my foot! I was shaking so hard that my mom had to comfort me..It was SO scary! But I really enjoyed the scene, after it was over

Hey, Emily I totally envy you, as I have never won ANYTHING in my ENTIRE life! The odds in my house seem to greatly my 2 siblings, my older brother and younger brother,(I have NO sisters).
