Here are the featured Hunger Games recipes for the week:
Recipe 1: All for Rue Groosling Legs
Rue was Katniss’ friend and ally, and not only helped her stay human
but also helped her stay alive. Still, she was amazed when Katniss
gave her a whole groosling leg, all for herself.
Since we don’t have groosling roaming around, in this recipe we use
turkey drumsticks, which you can often find in the supermarket during

1⁄2 TEASPOON FRESHLY GROUND PEPPER
1⁄2 TEASPOON DRIED SAGE

Melt the butter in the microwave, and then set aside.
Place the turkey legs onto a baking pan and brush with the melted butter, then
season each leg on all sides with the salt, pepper and sage, turning to get both
Place in the hot oven and bake for 1 hour, turning frequently. Serve warm and
eat off of the bone.
Recipe 2: Prim’s Goat Cheese Gifts
On the first morning of the trilogy, Prim left a gift of goat cheese
wrapped in fresh basil for her sister, Katniss. Like many foods in the
trilogy, this one was poetically symbolic. Goats are common sacrificial
animals in many cultures. Prim left this symbol of sacrifice for Katniss
very quietly, without fanfare. Soon, Katniss would make a very real
Unique presentation and refined flavors make this dish an excellent
appetizer for a party, while also enjoyable as a light snack.

USE FOR TRUSSING A CHICKEN
1–2 LARGE BUNCHES FRESH BASIL, ABOUT 16
(6-INCH LONG) STEMS WITH LEAVES INTACT
PRIM’S GOAT CHEESE GIFTS
In a small, non-metallic mixing bowl, use a fork to mash up the goat cheese.
In a separate bowl, combine the olive oil, lemon juice, pepper and vinegar.
Add the olive oil, lemon juice, vinegar and pepper mixture to the goat cheese and
mix well. Put in the fridge to chill while you assemble the basil stem “gift wrap.”
Take 2 pieces of twine; lay them in a cross pattern (one vertical, one horizontal)
and tie a knot in the center. Repeat for the other 3 sets of 2.
Remove cheese from fridge and divide into 4 equal portions.
One at a time, roll each portion into a ball and set aside.
Take 3 or 4 basil stems, depending on size, place in an asterisk pattern (like
slicing a pizza) and then place 1 ball of cheese in the center.
Carefully wrap the cheese ball with the basil stems.
Holding the ball tightly together, place onto the knot of the first twine “cross.”
Tie the first 2 pieces tightly at the top of the ball, then weave the second pair of
strings through that and knot again. Repeat for the other 3 balls.
Refrigerate in a covered container until ready to use.
To serve, let the packets come to room temperature, open them and spread the
cheese onto sliced Real Bakery Loaf Bread.
With your fingers, tear a few of the basil leaves and place them on top of the
cheese and bread.
Serve with bowls of fresh blackberries, blueberries or raspberries.
Recipe 3: Irresistible Hot Chocolate
Katniss had never seen hot chocolate before breakfast on the train,
but the hot chocolate she was served was so irresistible that she
ignored the array of foods until she’d drunk the last drop. Later in the
story, Katniss emulated Peeta, dipping her roll into the hot chocolate
as she saw him do this first morning on the train.
For this recipe, buy the best chocolate you can afford. It doesn’t take
much, and the resulting drink is so irresistibly worthwhile.
1 1⁄4 CUPS WHOLE MILK
1⁄2 CUP HEAVY CREAM OR HALF-AND-HALF
1⁄2 OF ONE REAL CINNAMON STICK
1⁄2 TEASPOON HIGH-QUALITY VANILLA EXTRACT
1⁄4 CUP LIGHT BROWN SUGAR
4 OUNCES (ABOUT 4 SQUARES) OF GOOD
BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE, FINELY GRATED
In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, cream, cinnamon stick and vanilla.
Heat on medium to low heat until slightly frothy.
Add brown sugar and stir, cooking until dissolved.
Remove pan from heat and stir in chocolate a little at a time, stirring constantly
until all is melted.
Let sit for 10 minutes off the heat, and then remove the cinnamon stick. Return to
heat just until warmed through and serve.
This week’s giveaway ends on October 11th and the winner will be announced the following day. The giveaway is open to international fans.
