Agreed. It absolutely baffles me how people want Zac Efron to be cast as Finnick. Seriously? He brings way too much baggage and will destroy the image of the movie. It won't be about Katniss anymore, it'll be like ZAC EFRON IS FINNICK COME WATCH THE MOVIE! No. Sure he's good looking, but he's no where near the height that Finnick needs to be. Liam would be a good Finnick if he weren't Gale.
I think they'll cast the right people, and they have to be actors not just a pretty face. I have good confidence that they'll cast the right people since they did such an amazing job with THG. They know how much of a fan favorite Finnick is and if they cast a wrong Finnick, there are going to be riots.
I don't understand why there is so much judgement towards Zac Efron. He's just as popular as anyone else. If anything, it'd be an interesting mix to the cast. Height shouldn't matter either but I guess fans have to have the perfect Finnick.
No, Zac Efron is not just as popular as anyone else, he is much more popular. He's one of the biggest stars of Hollywood and can easily snatch any leading role for a movie. He's already established himself as household name, the average person on the street knows exactly who he is and what movies he's been in. People like Garrett Hedlund, Armie Hammer, Grant Gustin, etc. are known, but not household names. Most of them do not have the history of being in a well established franchise like High School Musical.
And height very well matters for Finnick. It's part of his marketability and identity.
I understand everyone has their own preferences, I just believe it would be a huge mistake to cast Zac Efron. THG fans are very protective of the trilogy and we need it to stay true to the books and keep with the identity. Like I said before, in my opinion Zac Efron brings too much baggage with him. Finnick is a fan favorite and an important character, but the main character and main focus is still Katniss and Jennifer Lawrence. You can't divert the focus away from her and I believe every casting decision must be made with her in mind. She's the weight of this movie and as she runs, so does the movie. Now I don't know Zac Efron as a person, but he's always been in lead roles and with that comes baggage. Whatever ego there is needs to be dropped at the door because this is Jennifer Lawrence's movie. The movie already has a well established fan base, they don't need a big name to add gain publicity.
At the end of the day, all I really want is a good actor who can actually act. If they believe it is Zac, then fine. I don't have to like it, but once the decision is made I will have to live with it and then judge based on his performance. More than ever fans are more worried because Gary Ross is off board now, and he was a huge part in casting. That trust was already established from the first movie, so whoever they would've cast with Gary the fans would know it's the right decision.
