These books stirred the same feelings and thoughts as another series did when I was 13 called "Tomorrow When the War Began". It's a fantastic series by author James Marsden. It too is about kids fighting in a war and also has the not-so-happily-ever-after ending.

Oh I saw that movie, I have never heard about it before I watched it and until now I didn't even know there are books. It was quite interesting I will check out the books!
