In general, while reading any book, be it academic or purely for entertainment, I prefer to listen to music while on it. That does not include music that has audible lyrics on it though as I tend to lose concentration and at times be concerned over the lyrics that gets pronounced on the monitors.

Usually, I would use that zen Buddhism background music to get me going.

I used to be able to read or study or do homework with music on, but I can't do that anymore. The only time I can is if I'm on plane, then usually I have music on and read at the same time.

Since I mostly read when I'm on the bus, yes, I listen to music while I read ^^ when I'm studying I can concentrate even with music on, but usually I listen to Japanese or Korean music so that immediately I don't understand what they are singing about and I don't focus on the lyrics.

I did that too and when I hear those songs I still have that book feeling. :)
But I cannot do it anymore... I didn't speak English when I did that and the music was English the book's language wasn't. But now it's just distracting me.
Sometimes I read with instrumental music.

If I have music on in the background whilst reading I don't really hear it. It seems I can only focus on either reading or listening to music, not both at the same time.

Well since I read along with the audiobooks I have no reason to have music playing.

I do that all the time. I'm basically ALWAYS listening to music anyway.

I mostly listened to the HG Original Motion Picture OST and Music of Panem. I'm a late comer to the series, so I read the books after the movie came out, hence why I had access to those OST's.
