OK, I get it now. I agree in that she didn't deserve Peeta. But Peeta is not the kind of guy who lives in the past, and he gladly accepted Katniss despite what she had done.

As for Haymitch, he was the way it was because he had no one he cared for. I'm sure he'll improve now that he has Peeta and Katniss. And I don't think Katniss could end like that, because she has people who care for her.

I hated it, she did not marry Gale.

What is really confusing me is the last sentence, correct me if I'm wrong but it says "There are worse games to play." Is that refering to her battling her mind and past or is it hinting at a possible new series located in the same Panem Universe.

I think she says that The Hunger Games are much worse than her tedious "game" where she mentally lists every act of goodness she witnesses.

I liked the general idea of the epilogue. Through the whole series
I really wanted for that to happen.(katniss and Peter get together for real and have kids) on a negative note I didn't like how it was spelt out. There was no emotion at all, which maybe this is what te author was going for, showing that even with a "perfect" life, she still is the broken girl that she has been since the games. On to peeta. I absolutely LOVE him! Another downside of the epilogue is that it doesnt go into his current mental state at all. A huge theme of the book is peeta's struggle to make out fantasy and reality. Through the book he
Gets alot better (like how he strangled katniss at first and by the end they have kids) I would of liked to have a little more on his state of mind. (just me being a peeta nut ) :D
<3 <3 Peeta <3 <3
I don’t think it’s going to work out. Winning...won’t help in my case," says Peeta.

Why ever not?" says Caesar, mystified.

Peeta blushes beet red and stammers out. "Because...because...she came here with me.”

It was kinda...empty. Like it wasn't even there. I wish there were more books in the series, but it's up to Suzanne Collins. But she probably wouldn't write another book, because it's a trilogy.

While I agree that the epilogue seemed rushed, as did parts of the third book, I was very happy with the epilogue and that Collins provided closure to her readers. I understand enjoying the open ending, but I get the vibe that Collins wanted an ending to this story, and she's told all she wants to tell in that universe. I was happy that Katniss wound up with Peeta, and the resolutions to various characters.

In reading reactions to the book and overall series, I get frustrated with folks that want a "happier" ending, or don't understand why characters died how they did. I think that communicating what war is like to young adults was part of Collin's motivations in this work (I haven't read any interviews or the like with her that confirm this, this is just my opinion), and I think that having key characters meet a useless fate is part of that. I think Finnick is the only truly "useless" death here, as there are motivations from Coin behind Prim's death. The entire series is so morose, and your lead character is so flawed and "young" (in certain aspects) - I love that about this series, and about Katniss. I do feel she deserved the ending she got, and more than deserving Peeta, I feel Peeta deserved Katniss. She was his everything, and he got it, and all that he wanted to boot - I feel very satisfied knowing this.

In regards to leaving some things open for fanfiction - this is one series that I'm not looking for fanfiction to explore other areas that I didn't feel fulfilled in plot-wise. As in, romantic couplings other than canon and whatnot. I do feel like there are so many opportunities for expanding on that epilogue - how did Peeta/Katniss grow back together, what happened to Gale as he moved on, etc. If Collins ever dips back into this universe, I hope it's for a prequel - I would love to see what led to the first uprising, and the history of Panem.

Very well put and I agree with a lot of the things you said. On the last 5 mins of the Mockingjay audiobook SC answers some Q&A questions and she said that she was watching TV and was flipping through the channels and saw a reality tv show with young adults competing for money and the news which was showing the invasion of Iraq with soldiers the same age as those on the show, and they just meshed together I think that was a part of her motivation and some background on how she started THG.

Katniss is still flawed even in the epilogue, it takes her 15 years to decide that she wants children and that she still has horrible dreams and so does Peeta, I like that SC said this because it shows that even after all those years a little part of them still suffers instead of sugar coating it the whole thing.

I agree with you. Peeta really deserved Katniss. Althought I really hated the Katniss's attitudes had with Peeta when he came back. She was very imature, really rude with him, he never would do that. When I was reading this part, I wanted to hit a lot in Katniss. And when Haymitch talk to her about her attitudes I applauded and shouted "well done"!!
