I thought it was a little empty, it felt she had Peeta because Gale didnt come back, like it was accepted rather than grateful, not naming the children also was emotionless for someone who for everything through 3 books went through every emotion in life. I get she cant be "happy" but even the use of "real" didnt really make me believe the ending.

I hope when Hollywood do their duty they at least close this one for me, I know it will go against those who wanted Gale and those that like the suffering element but I am old and would like to think that Peeta ended up happy!

Sorry but I don't agree with that. She started to fall for Peeta in Catching Fire and to me this is relevant in Mockingjay when he was in the capitals hands and she finds out he had been hijacked. I felt that it was grateful that she ended up with Peeta she would have never ended up with Gale most say because he had a part in Prims death but that is not the only reason, he went in a totally opposite direction from what Katniss did and wanted.

nothing personal promise :)

This I have some problem with. Yes names would have been nice but then again its all up for speculation.

Sunshine, didnt take it personally at all,

To try and explain firstly I agree CF has the Peeta and Katniss relationship sown up and obvious.

When we get to MJ its very light touch, the Epilogue just seems like the last few chapters rushed, as if SC had enough at this point, so where I feel the basis of my issue is.

Firstly the detachment from Gale is forced, its not what she wants, although its written as relief when she is told about Gale (which she asks about , she never asks about Peeta!) could be taken as relief he is happy.

When she works through in her head that she needs to survive is the Dandelion in the Spring rather than Gales fire, thats not sentiment or Love thats just acceptance, Katniss never had to make the decision with Peeta and Gale it was made for her, Gale didnt return and Peeta did.

But my biggest moan is the line "Peeta and I grow back together", hence my thats not realisation of loving feelings, thats acceptance of time and little else, I am sure if we said to out Partners etc that I have grown to love you it wouldnt go down too well :D

Thats all, I think with all the raw emotions of the 1st two books, the 3rd although a good book leaves a few too many gaps and the Epilogue is one for me.

Good points, I'm re reading the series right now, half way through CF, I'll have to comeback to this when I finish Mockingjay again. When I first read it, it felt like a fictional war novel to me and the ending came as a big surprise and so did the epilogue, to me when an author leaves gaps like SC did its up to the reader to fill them in like they were left open on purpose. This may or may not be true, because I read on another forum that SC was forced by her publisher to make Mockingjay limited or something like that hence the rushing in the last few chapters.

When I read the epi, I did not think it was a "happy ending" for Katniss at all. Sure it was everything that some people would ask for; peace, family, children, etc. But I kept thinking in my head, was that what Katniss wanted? Sure it could have turned out worse, Katniss acting more like Haymitch, living alone and depressed forever. However, Katniss didn't know if she wanted to marry, she didn't know if she wanted kids. The events of the trilogy took that away from her. She didn't have a choice she had to take whatever the "best" option was, and that was Peeta because he was who was there with her at the end. Gale gave up because he felt like Katniss would secretly despise him forever.

To me, the ending of the story was near perfect. I read the ending and the epi and realized that this wasn't supposed to be a happy ending for Katniss. It was supposed to be a happy ending for the future of Panem.

OH MY GOD, I thought I was the ONLY one... I think it should have ended with her planting the primrose bushes with Peeta, and them writing a book together. I know your given the idea that their friendship builds into love, but I wanted to read it. I wanted to read when Katinss got that moment they had on the beach during the games, and it slams her like a ton of bricks and she shouts. I LOVE YOU Peeta... its you you are the one I want... sucks I didn't get that. *pouts*
