No teams! No twi-teams :(

Anyway I like them both actually but I am biased to Peeta, he is my favorite character!

Gale is Katniss best friend, the one she can confide in, the one who she can swap skills, secrets and strategies with. That is nice and I think that is as far as it would ever go. My thing with him is that in THG, he made no moves or intentions of making moves. The most 'romantic' thing you see them do is hold each other before she leaves D12. After her time in the arena he now wants to feel something for her! What the heck? If the supposedly loved her that whole time (or part of it anyway) why didn't he do it BEFORE the games? Since he did it right after, it seems like he only noticed her, after her victory or being with Peeta.
Anyway as much as Gale is good, he even fess up that she only cares about him when he is hurt. Example? When he was whipped in CF. They shared a moment sure, but that is all. In MJ, he becomes more, and more full of hatred. I do not blame him one bit though, look what he went through! After the games and what Katniss has gone through, both mentally and emotionally, I think Gale was out from then on in. If she would have never went to the games, they may have ended up together. With Gales lack of making a move prior to the games, make me highly doubt that

As for Peeta, well he confessed he loved her since they were little. He helped her and her family from starving. He sacrifices himself time and time again for her. (Gale would too). My theory for THG when he professes his love to her was Haymitchs idea. When Peeta wanted to be coached separately, I bet that is the time he confided in Haymitch that he loved her and wants to know how to protect her. That is when Haymitch probably thought that confessing live on TV would help get HER sponsers and thus giving her advantage in the games. That was all for her, although others think that is a selfish act on his part.
Anyway, I dont think anyone pointed out that Katniss noticed Peeta all though out the time after him saving her with the bread. When he is boosting her up to Haymitch in THG, she fires back by saying all the stuff he does (wrestling, carrying flour) that she surprised herself in knowing. She was watching him too. Now I dont think it was out of love, but either guilt or something like caring about him.
Anway, there are several examples of her having moments with Peeta that never happened with Gale, like the cave, the beach etc... Besides those, the way that they took Peeta away after the first games and how (if I remember correctly) she yells after him and wants to be near him while the doctors work on fixing his leg. Also, in CF she would do anything to save him. Now I know that was more of a political move on the rebels (soon to be) part, but who gives their life like that for a supposed political cause. Supposedly, they wanted to keep Peeta alive because he has the voice to sway crowds. True. But her risking her life for him, was a love thing not just a political thing.
The hijacking to me was one of many of the sad parts of MJ. The way he acted when he saw her and hated her and was bent on killing her was so upsetting. Poor boy went though so much. The Capitol turned a boy who would give his life for this girl into a burning desire to destroy her. What an effect that can have. I also can see she loved him by the way she was angry about his crazy attitude. Unfair to think that way but that is what love does.

In the end I am glad they end up together. They compliment each character well. The opposite theory only goes so far with them. Their personality is the opposite part that is ok. The other part that makes them complimentary is that they have been through 2 HGs and a war together. That is something only these two can know together. Good ending to an excellent series, just wish Prim wasn't killed off :(
Sorry for the rambling!

Well, being a guy I can tell you that it's probably because before he saw her with Peeta he didn't know he had that kind of feelings for her.

Honestly, I'd have been glad if she really did not end up with either. I've always been on Gale's side from the beginning but I understand that he would not have been able to connect with Katniss like Peeta did after the emotional damage that the Hunger Games and the war wrecked. I would have felt really sorry for Peeta had she ended up with Gale though, after all that torture he had endured (I really like Peeta's character too :) ), but I dont like the fact that Gale was not in Katniss's life anymore at all. After all this, I'm still left undecided as to whom she 'should' have ended up with and in my opinion it would have been better that she was alone in the conclusion, which would correspond to her strong fiery and independent character.
But even after saying all this, Gale FTW :)

Team Peeta all the way.

He is just perfect for Katniss. Gale, not really. He's just too hot tempered and they were definitely very different people as in Mockingjay.

Team Peeta for sure! He's SO much better than Gale and after each book I felt more and more sure that Katniss can do a lot better than Gale.

The character, Peeta, has reached me in a new way that I have never felt before. Its disgusting how in love with her he is and how deeply she is blinded by her will to live and denial of positive feelings from others. I know she is so protective, etc etc but....I cannot describe it. I cant. The feelings swim around in my head but I cannot for the life of me get it out in words or on paper why oh WHY this character has touched me like this. The only part I can decipher is that I was devastated when I realized that Katniss and Peeta may really not end up together. It broke my heart to think of all the love, compassion, unconditional respect, protection, admiration, ugh...everything that he had for her was just gone. It drained my heart to the fullest to imagine this story ending without them being together. I was so relieved when I read the last part of the last chapter. I was over joyed, in tears, and sad at the same time that the plot just dropped off a cliff....but they were together. He was there. The love was too deep for drugs, brain washing, and a revolt to completely destroy it. I cannot deal...will I ever meet my Peeta? And the actor Josh Hucherson was AMAZING. He is what allowed me to even tolerate the movie. I know this trilogy is severly focused on politics etc...but I am too much of a hopeless romantic to not fixate on Peeta.....and love. I sob when I think of this...why??? Yes, I am not your average happy go lucky person, and can be incredibly deep, but this is strange even for me. Why is this? Why do I get like this? EVERY SINGLE time I hear Taylor Swift's safe and sound...I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY DID NOT PLAY THAT SONG AT ALL!! outraged. That director does not have anything on Collins. Please write back if you are interested in my thoughts, or have any of your own. Or, if you are my Peeta ;)

Peeta.

But not because I think Katniss loves him more. I don’t know who Katniss loves, and I don’t think she does either. She’s sixteen, and if that isn’t cause for confusion enough, the first time she ever kissed anyone, ever seriously considered romance at all, she was faking it to save her life.

I do think that she and Gale had better chemistry, though. I actually rooted for Gale through the first two books, partly because of that, partly because Peeta’s “I’m in love with you even though I don’t even know you” came off pretty creepy, partly because Peeta was pretty useless in the Games, and partly because it was so obvious by the sheer amount of development Peeta got that SC always intended Katniss to end up with him (and I hate to root for the obvious thing). And I liked Gale, I really did. He came off sweet and strong and brave and resilient. I always admired Peeta for his idealism, but he was a little too saccharine for my taste.

But by Mockingjay, my patience for Gale was fading. I made a lot of excuses for him, and I think Katniss did, too, but he never redeemed himself. Prim was just the last straw. Throughout the book, Katniss figured out that Coin was just as bad as Snow, that killing that Capitol girl in the yellow coat was just as bad as killing Prim, that exacting retribution from the innocent is wrong no matter how just your cause, no matter how much you’ve suffered. That’s why she learned to forgive Peeta for what he couldn’t help. And that’s why, no matter who dropped those explosives, Gale did kill Prim.

He was willing to blow that mine without warning, kill someone else’s father the way his father died, leave some other kid to fend for his family the way he and Katniss had to. He was, without hesitation, willing to kill everyone in the Capitol if he could, guilty or innocent, Peacekeeper or civilian, adult or child. If he had been in that room, I feel certain he would’ve voted to send Snow’s granddaughter off to the Games and start another era just as bad as the one they fought to end. It’s that kind of thinking that killed Prim, that killed all those tributes, that makes wars like this inevitable.

Katniss knows that now and she will never again be able to look at him and not blame him for Prim and for everybody else who died because of him, just as she blames herself for all those who died because of her. That’s why she choose Peeta, not necessary because she loved him more. (Maybe she does, but maybe she doesn’t.) But Peeta was the one who was genuinely pure of heart. He’s the only victor who’s never killed anyone out of malice-- he only won because of Katniss. He was the little boy who saved Katniss’s life with burnt bread (symbolic, obviously), the artist who made something beautiful out of so much destruction. He’s the boy who said before he ever saw the inside of an arena or a battlefield that he’d rather die and die as himself than live, having exchanged his ideals for his life-- and that never changed. Even after facing torture, he risked his life to warn Katniss and the others about the bombing.

From what I’ve heard about SC, the way she talked about how she was inspired by her father who fought in Vietnam and made sure his kids understood exactly what war was really like, that was what the Gale vs. Peeta subplot was really about. Not some Twilight-esque teenage romance-- it was about the past vs. the future, revenge vs. forgiveness, destruction vs. hope. After all that’s happened in Mockingjay, I feel like choosing Gale would’ve been contrary to the entire point of the books.

I think my name speaks for itself katniss always loved gale and she had to fight in an arena for days to even like peeta truthfully I was hoping peeta would die all through book 1,2,3 it would make things less complicated and how dare you guys compare the hunger games to twilight? That's like comparing Barbie to LOTR and peeta was always just a wreck crying all the time when gale always stayed strong for katniss I don't think it's even a competetion
