Agreed. It absolutely baffles me how people want Zac Efron to be cast as Finnick. Seriously? He brings way too much baggage and will destroy the image of the movie. It won't be about Katniss anymore, it'll be like ZAC EFRON IS FINNICK COME WATCH THE MOVIE! No. Sure he's good looking, but he's no where near the height that Finnick needs to be. Liam would be a good Finnick if he weren't Gale.

I think they'll cast the right people, and they have to be actors not just a pretty face. I have good confidence that they'll cast the right people since they did such an amazing job with THG. They know how much of a fan favorite Finnick is and if they cast a wrong Finnick, there are going to be riots.

I don't understand why there is so much judgement towards Zac Efron. He's just as popular as anyone else. If anything, it'd be an interesting mix to the cast. Height shouldn't matter either but I guess fans have to have the perfect Finnick.

No, Zac Efron is not just as popular as anyone else, he is much more popular. He's one of the biggest stars of Hollywood and can easily snatch any leading role for a movie. He's already established himself as household name, the average person on the street knows exactly who he is and what movies he's been in. People like Garrett Hedlund, Armie Hammer, Grant Gustin, etc. are known, but not household names. Most of them do not have the history of being in a well established franchise like High School Musical.

And height very well matters for Finnick. It's part of his marketability and identity.

I understand everyone has their own preferences, I just believe it would be a huge mistake to cast Zac Efron. THG fans are very protective of the trilogy and we need it to stay true to the books and keep with the identity. Like I said before, in my opinion Zac Efron brings too much baggage with him. Finnick is a fan favorite and an important character, but the main character and main focus is still Katniss and Jennifer Lawrence. You can't divert the focus away from her and I believe every casting decision must be made with her in mind. She's the weight of this movie and as she runs, so does the movie. Now I don't know Zac Efron as a person, but he's always been in lead roles and with that comes baggage. Whatever ego there is needs to be dropped at the door because this is Jennifer Lawrence's movie. The movie already has a well established fan base, they don't need a big name to add gain publicity.

At the end of the day, all I really want is a good actor who can actually act. If they believe it is Zac, then fine. I don't have to like it, but once the decision is made I will have to live with it and then judge based on his performance. More than ever fans are more worried because Gary Ross is off board now, and he was a huge part in casting. That trust was already established from the first movie, so whoever they would've cast with Gary the fans would know it's the right decision.

Okay well why do fans think Alex Pettyfer should play finnick? Alot of fans want him to play Finnick too which leads me to believe that the hype over him is as big as Zac's too. I think unknowns would be best. Then no one would have to get dissappointed...

Well Finnick I think would have been cast perfectly by Leonardo Decaprio when he was younger and less well known

As long as they act good, I don´t care if the actors are known or unknown..

Good point.

I want to start participating more in forums like this so I'm going to start off with this article, about an actress campaigning on her own for the role of Johanna Mason: http://www.gadaily.com/index.php/arts/4 ... hing-fire-

As I said in a Johanna-specific thread here, I think it's awesome how much dedication and hard work this trilogy is inspiring in people.

Is there any special creative project of your own that you felt inspired to work on after reading the books or seeing the movie?

I'm really compelled to make a website dedicated to analyzing everything that involves the hunger games! I would center my life around THG, no joke. :D

Ryan Kwatan!!! That's inspired. And we wouldn't even have to put up with his character Jason's "Aw shucks". Jason in True Blood isn't exactly rocket scientist material. Not that Finnick isn't rocket science material, that's another character's job.

But it'd be really nice to see Ryan Kwatan not play the Dumb Blonde anymore.

He's not a fool, considering what he had to do in the Capitol, but he should be able to read people's emotions and react to them. Like at the bottom of the tree, when Katniss has decided it's time to get rid of him? His reaction to her as she lands at the bottom of the tree? That would be rich. Positively rich.

And the endless weeping and mental disarray in Mockingjay? I'll bet he'd be just fine.

The Greek God good looks? Check. He appears to be very athletic, so he should be able to move through the water impressively. Check. I saw him go through some misery the first season of TB, that's going to go on twice as long as be twice as bad. I'll be he does great.

I completely forgot about him when choosing among a group who would be best.

He'd get my vote easily. And I'll bet he's not impossible to get, contract-wise.

Otherwise, I see the discussion got lively over choices. I think everyone's opinion is valid, if they really have their hearts pinned on a particular person. Armee Hammer was my favorite in the last survey. He has the height, he has the charming good looks. I don't know how he'd be in Mockingjay as a wreck of a person, but that's what auditions are for.

Zac Efron's eyes alone are my biggest reason for thinking he'd be okay. Sure, it would be nice to have Finnick tall. But I don't mind Peeta not being "tall", mostly because Josh's face and attitude nails Peeta for me. He put on 15lbs for the role, adding more muscularity to Peeta. I'm hopin' he picks Katniss up in Catching Fire. Poor girl falls down a fair amount. And with good reason. I know. Peeta has similar shocks. She doesn't have to pick him up. And she probably could! They do something like a boot camp, or did before the last one.

It's an old argument. Does a heartthrob have to be tall? I went through debates on vampire boards defending Bill Compton as still being sexy with strong rebuttals that he didn't hold a candle to Alex O'Loughlin's Mick in "Moonlight". Some women are pretty adamant about their masculine objects of affection be at least 6 feet tall or something. Maybe 5'11" would pass. I dunno. I guess it depends on what on who makes your heart beat quicker. Husband is only an inch taller than me, "but we're all the same height lying down".  Sorry, that was one of his retorts when we were first dating. I don't remember what I said to elicit that. But I'm glad he was so comfortable with me teasing him. I don't do that anymore. We've been together a very long time. And I ain't throwin' no rocks from my Glass House!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And the possible choice for Johanna sounds fine, she'd be able to do the attitude perfectly.

OR, if they do total unknowns (I mean to the general public) that would be fine with me, too. But Finnick has got to be somebody special. What about his green eyes? Contacts? Or we'll just get used to a lot of searing blue eyes in the movie.

Come to think of it, I have to go look at some closeup of Peeta, see if they made Josh Hutcherson's eyes blue. I couldn't decide by his IMDB picture, but his eyes on his website show them to be brown. A very pretty shade of brown, though.
So, maybe like his artificial leg, producers decided it wasn't worth the trouble of wearing blue contacts and dealing with running, sand, and water.
They're already at work on "Catching Fire". WoooooooHOOOOOOOOOOO!
