How The Hunger Games Viral Marketing Is Funding Pitcairn Islands
Here’s an interesting analysis from The Mary Sue on how ‘The Hunger Games’ viral marketing is funding Pitcairn Islands.
Most people who have checked out The Hunger Games viral marketing site www.thecapitol.pnhave probably registered in their mind that the “.pn” domain is meant to be a shortening of Panem, the country in which the books take place. However, do you know what the “.pn” domain is typically used for?
The “.pn” domain is owned and operated by the government of the Pitcairn Islands, a group of four small islands which are part of the British Overseas Territories. The islands have been selling second-level domains, basically anything that isn’t gov.pn or education.pn, for quite a few years.
The population of the Pitcairn Islands is 50, according to their government website. (http://www.government.pn/) Lionsgate has clearly registered one to two domains for every Pitcairn Islander!
To add to the hilarity of it all, the savvy marketing professionals at Lionsgate registered the domains as being property of “The Capitol, PN.”

This coming March, WizKids Games will be releasing new Hunger Games items namely The Hunger Games Collectible Figures Single-Figure Boosters, The Hunger Games District 12 Strategy Game, and The Hunger Games Jabberjay Card Game.
The Hunger Games Collectible Figures Single-Figure Boosters will feature 27 figurines from The Hunger Games movie. Collect every tribute, Gale, and two different versions of Katniss and Peeta!
The Hunger Games District 12 Strategy Game will highlight storyline from the movie. Players will attempt to gather food, clothing, medicine, and more in efforts to avoid The Reaping.
The Hunger Games Jabberjay Card Game is a game of secrets and deduction. Players represent a District or Capitol Citizen, each hiding their identity from their opponents. Their goal is to discover everyone else’s identity, and send them fleeing from the game. Players can also choose to work together to protect one another from the Peacekeepers.

The Hunger Games – London Film Premiere Planned For March 14, 2012
According to UKFilmPremieres, the premiere of The Hunger Games movie is planned for Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Celeb arrivals likely to be between 5.15pm and 6.15pm.
There’s no official press release/confirmation yet from Lionsgate.
